List of closed areas:
34th St/Herald Square was built as an express station and and important transfer station between Broadway Line trains and trains on 6th Avenue, initially in the form of the IRT 6th Avenue Elevated and later the IND 6th Avenue Line.
The station has seen multiple areas in it closed off due to security concerns, mainly various entrances and several long passages. The entrances comprise one at the southeastern corner of 34th Street and 6th Avenue/Broadway, two at the southwestern corner of 33rd Street and 6th Avenue, and one on the west side of 6th Avenue between 33rd Street and 34th Street. The passages comprise one built by the IND under 6th Avenue that leads to 38th Street and 6th Avenue (as well as the 42nd Street/Bryant Park station) and one to Penn Station, which is better known as "Gimbels Passage."
