7th Ave was built as an express station when the Brighton Line was extended into Manhattan.
The station once contained two mezzanines and therefore two entrance points. The two mezzanines were connected with out-of-system passages above either platform. However, because of security concerns, the station saw its southern mezzanine and its set of entrances completely shuttered, as well as the passages between both mezzanines. The entrances were located at both northern corners of Sterling Place and Flatbush Avenue, a block southeast of the only open entrances.
