125th St was built as an important express station.
Originally containing four sets of exits, the station has seen two closed off entirely due to security concerns. The station's mezzanine used to span the whole length of the station, but was eventually split into four sections, with the southernmost and second northernmost section being closed to the public. The second northernmost portion had entrances at 126th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue, and the southernmost portion had entrances on St. Nicholas Avenue between 125th Street and 124th Street.
