Bowery
Lines
BMT Jamaica Line
List of closed areas:
Bowery was built as an important transfer station between subway trains from Brooklyn and elevated trains and streetcar lines in Manhattan. Originally built as a 4-track/2-platform express station, it has since been reduced in size; the southern platform (and its tracks) have been closed since October 2004, and all service currently runs on the northern platform.
In addition to a closed southern platform, the station features a closed western mezzanine that was closed long before 2004. This mezzanine had two exits to both western corners of Bowery and Kenmare Street. The entrances were once very spacious and grandiose, but have since been reduced in size or sealed and repurposed entirely - the northwestern entrance no longer has traces of its former self, and the southwestern entrance remains as a small emergency exit.
